Silence in the Arab World

Comment on Mona Eltahawy in the Washington Post

The Arab world is quite silent, but not completely so. Iran is not seen any more as a new unstoppable Middle Eastern Power, which is going to strike a radically new balance between the Sunni an the Shite. The return of US Ambassador to Damascus must have been preceded by an “understanding.” The Syrian Dictator is not content anymore in holding tight under the Iranian Umbrella. Hamas did not change its positions, but the tone is different. Probably an agreement with Israel of unknown scope is in work. This terror organization understands that it can not rely solely on its Teheran benefactor. The Sunni in Iraq feel that with weakened Iran it will be perhaps possible to reach an agreement with their rivals. Those things are far cry from democracy, but they are the results of “twitter” changes in Iran. Twitter will eventually work with similar efficiency among other dictatorships too.
