The debate on torture shifted, as with a magic wand, from morality to efficacy. This is rather similar to Democrats against war; they are ardent supporters of it as long as America clearly and impressively is winning. Now after Bush and Cheney are out of office many "Bush" officials declare that torture is inefficient. Probably when in office they were silent because then it was efficient and fashionable. Cheney asked for release of documents in this matter. It seems that if efficacy is the issue, he will prevail. Be this as it may, President Obama and vast majority of Americans are right in their wish to put this issue at rest.
