When weapons of mass destruction were perceived as an immanent threat in Iraq (and US was clearly winning), most American journalists, including Mr. Cohen, if I am not mistaken, supported the war there. A nuclear ability, if acquired by Sadam Hussein, would not have been a direct threat against the US. It would have however disrupted the balance of power in the Middle East and put a serious question mark on supply of oil to the US, Europe and rest of the world.
Nuclear Iran is not less of a danger to strategic interests of the US than nuclear Iraq would have been. It is first of all immediate danger to US friends such as Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and every other moderate regime there. The US should discuss the response to nuclear Iran first of all with those countries.
Israel should leave Iran and its nuclear capability to other countries. An Israeli attack on Iran will not achieve much, even if all nuclear facilities there are destroyed. The main issue is not facilities or even having several bombs but the technological ability to make them. According to Israeli intelligence reports the Iranians have already crossed the technological barrier. However, Iran knows that if it ever attacks Israel with nuclear weapons it will be totally wiped out.
This state of affairs does not mean that pointing to the Iranian threat means crying wolves. Iran supplies arms to Hamas and actively supports it. According Hamas charter the Jews, yes not the Israelis but the Jews, initiated the Second World War for commercial gains and in order to form their state. They are also responsible for the First World War, the French and the Russian Revolutions and every other revolution since then. The denial of Holocaust fits very well into the common view with Hamas and other Islamist antisemites.
